"Acupuncture is one of the few treatments available to a woman that offers a completely drug free and natural approach, enabling her to maintain good health and weelbeing throughout her life!" After the Birth - Acupuncture for Post Natal Recovery It is normal to have sharp, cramp like pains after the birth, as the uterus decends back into the pelvis after the baby has been delivered. This is normally resolved after a few days. Acupuncture can be used to removed any retained material and stop or subside bleeding where it continues. However if bleeding does not stop or gets worse, you need to contact you midwife or GP. Self Help : Acupuncturists can trian you to do a self help treatment called 'mother warming' which can start 10-14 days after the birth and help the body become strong by building good qi and blood. Post-Natal Depression : It can also help with post-natal depression, especially where fatique is a problem after the birth. The womans body has many adjustments to make after the birth, and if there are any complications during the birth her blood and qi will be disturbed which can soemtie lead to post-natal depression. Acupuncture can be hugely supportive with this. Remember.... It takes at least a month to recover after the birth and physical rest is recommended at every opportunity - not best rest, but be gentle with yourself while your qi and blood become strengthened and nourised again. Exercise to get your shape back is great, but it's unrealistic to expect to be normal within a couple of weeks of the birth. Ask for support because you need to be looked after as much as the baby for that first month, especially if labour was complicated or if you had a caesarian. |
