The Next Generation
Seamfree nursing bra (Style 361) is a new release from UK maternity and
nursing lingerie specialists Emma Jane and is the company’s first
seamfree product. True to form, Emma Jane has designed a price-conscious
garment that rolls comfort, support and value into one, making it a
real contender to more expensive seamfree bras on the market.
Machine
washable at 40 degrees, the Emma Jane Next Generation Seamfree nursing
bra is available in four sizes from 32-38 and three colours: black,
white and skin. As well as being seamfree, and therefore more
comfortable for nursing mums with sensitive boobs, the bra features a
fairly wide knitted underband and the cups fit snugly and smoothly.
The
shoulder straps have restricted stretch to improve support but, should
you need it, a bra extender (586) can be bought separately.
What we love
I tend to favour sporty and T-shirt bras anyway so it was great to
find a pregnancy/nursing version with a neckline neither too scooped nor
too high that also featured a proper bra fastener. The Emma Jane Next
Generation Seamfree nursing bra comes with four back fasteners that you
can adjust to your changing ribcage size. For me, this really marks it
out from other seamfree styles, which often have to be pulled over the
head.
The Emma Jane Next Generation Seamfree nursing bra is a
bit of a time-saver, too. On a busy day (when pre-baby mornings deciding
which bra works best with your outfit are a distant memory) the new
Emma Jane bra has become a reliable option. I’ve worn it with T-shirts,
blouses and jumpers, always finding the shape works and the drop cups
easy to access for breastfeeding. It scores highly on comfort, too, and
could also be worn overnight as a sleep bra.
Although I only
tried this bra once breastfeeding was underway, Emma Jane says it’s
suitable for pre-birth, too. I have several maternity-only bras that
became defunct the moment my son was born so for those mums wanting an
economic option that will last the distance, the Emma Jane Next
Generation Seamfree nursing bra should work for you.
Similar
seamfree bras available, especially lighter coloured ones, are often
criticised for being too thin and not providing adequate coverage for a
breastfeeding mums’ darker nipples. The bra I tested was black but the
fabric seemed sufficiently thick for this not to be a problem with the
white and skin versions.
Finally, the price is certainly
appealing. The bra retails at just £10 and is more competitively priced
than many other similar options.
What to watch out for
The style is not for everybody. I like a sporty type bra anyway but
for women who prefer frills, lace and underwire, the seamfree will still
feel like functional rather than fashionable underwear. The ruched
centre takes some of the plainness away.
